Video messaging app to keep in touch

Is anyone familiar with a good cross platform video messaging app? I like Snapchat’s idea of being able to send relatively short videos to select people (rather than something like Facebook or Instagram where it is open to everyone) and am trying to find something similar, but that doesn’t just delete the clip afterwards. My mom is always giving me grief about not keeping her up on whatever I’m doing for fun, so I’d love to be able to send her a short clip while out hiking or snowboarding.
The only thing is that the app has to be available on both iPhone, which my parents both use, and my own Android phone.
I’ve been looking around online and came across the apps VMS and Vids2Vids. I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of these apps or another similar one you’ve found works well. User friendly is a plus considering my mom only just discovered a few weeks ago the little toolbox you can drag up on iPhones (which has been around for quite awhile now).

Thanks for any & all insight!

If you got an iPhone, you could iMessage videos directly to your parents. Maybe you should consider that.

Instagram, while public, has direct messaging so you’re able to send photos or videos directly to one person or a group and only the selected will see it. iMessage doesn’t work across platform, but iMessage is so fast and convenient.

I’m not aware of those apps, but both Facebook and Instagram had privacy controls where you can control who sees what. For Facebook, you could create an album just for your parents and upload pictures to that album every now and then. The same with Instagram. Direct message them pictures as things happen.

What about Vine?

You can send video messages with Skype. Works great, and it is free.
