This actually came up in the Olympics thread.

Athletes are better today than in years past. Dancers are better today. There are dancers on sytycd, that are better than Fred Astaire. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but…NO. The dancers on Sytycd are not better than Fred Astaire. :)

Which gives me an excuse to post this…because I love this…

I love the whole scene. That look by Ginger Rogers when she realizes Fred Astaire can dance…love that. And of course, Fred Astaire’s dancing and the way he moves. I am repeating myself. I love the whole scene.

I think we should have a thread where people can post videos of anything they want, as long as the videos aren’t offensive. We will see how it goes…unless this isn’t allowed. Political videos are incredibly offensive. Forget those.

I would like to see what others like. After all, The Olympics aren’t going to be on forever. :)

dstark thanks for starting this thread. People always talk about how some American Idol singer or somebody on Glee did this song the “best ever” but no – this is perfection

That number from “Swing Time” linked in the first post is my favorite Astaire-Rogers dance, too!

What Arlene Croce, dance critic who literally wrote the book on them, considers among their best: [Waltz In Swing Time - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Swing Time (1936) - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

I love Ginger but this number with Rita Hayworth is almost my favorite of his partner dances: [Fred Astaire And Rita Hayworth – “I’m Old Fashioned” - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Kind of obscure but currently my favorite Astaire Youtube clip. You have to be patient for the dancing to start (about 2 minutes in) but it shows his stunning array of talents as a singer and pianist. His mastery of a small prop that would have confounded most people is amazing. [I’ve got my eyes on you - Fred Astaire (Broadway Melody of 1940) - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Thank you for starting this thread, dstark. Watching Astaire clips on Youtube has gotten me through many a tough day. The sheer charm of that man! And the genius too.

Another amazing dance for two men from Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall: [Alley Dance - My Sister Eileen 1955 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) Rall seems to be more technically accomplished/the better athlete but I can’t stop watching Fosse.

Marilyn, I was able to see your clip. Nice.
Frazzled1, thanks.

That is my favorite Astaire-Rogers clip too.

I never saw that Broadway melody of 1940. Very nice. I agree with everything you said about Astaire.

This isn’t dancing but I love this clip.
[A Fine Romance - Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Swing Time (1936) - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

This one has dancing.

Obviously, I love the movie “Swing Time”.
Ginger looks really great here. I am a guy, but I almost always have my eyes on Astaire or Kelly. lol
Rita Hayworth is not bad either. :)

I was going to post some Bob Fosse clips. I was searching through to decide which ones. And you beat me to the punch. I love Bob Fosse too. There are multiple Bob Fosse clips from your link. Now I am going to view those. Caberet and All That Jazz are two of my favorite films.

Love Astaire and Kelly, hadn’t seen that clip of them together before. I was looking for something different and ran across this: [Hellzapoppin'; Swing Dance Scene - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube’”>- YouTube) Wow!
