Based on last year, I would guess that EA decisions are released on Friday 1/16 (apparently, the third Friday of January has been a recent pattern). Last year, decisions were released at 4 PM EST on Friday 1/17 – For applicants who were deferred, there was a line in their deferral letter inviting them to switch to ED2 (even though it was technically 2 days after the ED2 deadline). I would expect something similar again this year…
if im applying ed 2 with an unweighted gpa of 89 weighted 95 from grades 9-11 am i cooked? im anticipating my first semester senior year grades to be like a 93 uw and a 97 or 98 weighted
@User67 in the past EA has come out after the EDII deadline but I have heard of people deferred EA who received emails asking if they wanted to switch to ED2, even though the deadline has already passed. IIRC it was a quick turnaround decision - you had to switch from EA deferred to ED by end of January. I also think it’s only offered to some. I do think that if it’s offered and you switch that your chances are very good.

Results are out! DD got in for Chem. She’s got a lot of leadership ECs + college-level research. Weighted GPA of 4.64/ unweighted 3.94. SAT a tad lower than their median so she did not submit. We did visit and were impressed. Good luck to all!

DS in for EA and excited. Good luck everyone. Accepted to VSB. UW GPA around 3.9 and weighted is more complicated since their school does a strange weighting system. SAT 1530/ACT 34. Decent ECs (sports, club leadership, music, job)

Deferred. 1500 SAT submitted, 4.0UW, 4.8W diverse ECs (V sport, 2 jobs, volunteering, organized a couple fundraiser/food drives, clubs, Honor societies) 7 AP, 4 DE. Applied to Business School. Interesting how these things work.. got accepted to Notre Dame and deferred to Villanova. I am equally shocked by both results. haha

DD rejected. 4.2 weighted GPA, varsity sport 3 years, captain 1 year, lots of volunteer hours. Double legacy. Did not submit SAT. 
We have the opposite situation! Admitted to Villanova (no legacy) and deferred to ND (sibling and grandparent legacy). 35 ACT, 4.3 GPA (6 APs), lots of leadership, great internship in a university science lab, lots of faith related activities. Good luck and hope your student gets what they hope for! It is such a crapshoot!
What major?
My son is a 3.8/4.2 but 4.5 in Junior Year. 7 APs (5 this year). Engineering track 3 years including a capstone honors project. We have a legacy (grandfather). Visited, attended college sessions etc. Flat out rejected. Not deferred to RD. We are in shock. Did get into other schools including Purdue which is #8 engineering. My son really liked the school but its ok didn’t love it because the food is known to be bad and not really a walkable town.
And low ranked for engineering, so I guess its a sign that this isn’t the one. And will save us a ton of money. But it is close by which is nice and the students and professors seemed really nice and engaged. Good luck to everyone!

Mine was also deferred – for nursing. She has no hook (not a legacy, etc.) but did visit. She just completed the deferral form in her portal. Stats are single-sitting ACT 33 (35 math, 35 science), grades through junior year are 3.79 UW GPA (4.98 weighted), 11 AP and DE courses (6 of those were taken before senior year with scores of 4 and 5 reported), varsity athlete/team captain, hospital volunteer, summer job, etc.
Question: I have read that Villanova has historically been stingy with EA acceptances, and that there is actually a higher acceptance rate with RD. Does anyone know if that is actually true?

Interesting that many of you commented that you visited. Does that make a difference? We’re relatively local and my DD had been on campus a million times, including a week (overnights) for a sports camp. She knew it was top 3 for her so we put off the formal “tour” until after she had all her acceptances lined up and could make a final decision. Did that hurt her…?

Yeah, I saw that. It’s right on their website (FAQs) too. I think I only mentioned it because she referred to her visit on the deferral form statement of continued interest.
