Virginia Governor has declared a state of emergency

“And earlier this week we were worried about going to war with another country.”

Still worried about that. Too many fronts to be worrying about right now. What a mess.

Warning : the video is graphic and the commentary filled with obscenities. Looking at it, it definitely looks like this was murder. Car’s window tinted very dark so it’s impossible to see the driver. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/12/542982015/home-to-university-of-virginia-prepares-for-violence-at-white-nationalist-rally

Watching some of the footage of police in riot gear trying to contain/control. Some of the racists were pushing back on them and jostling the police. The police just kept moving forward but took no action and showed no increased force. All I could think was that if they were people of color or another group, they would have been met with more force. We’ve seen it repeatedly.

@musicprnt I agree with your post. What is done - and what isn’t - speaks volumes to those involved and those watching at home.

Anyone know how to run a plate? There’s a clear still photo of the car from behind in this story:

GVF-1111

I don’t see that anyone’s said this explicitly (apologies if repeating- brain is a little mush right now): at least one person has died.

Well, if you are going to use an anecdote to support a view regarding police force, I can use one to refute it:

The images of such a diverse group of people coming together and putting themselves in harm’s way against racists/nationalists/supremacists makes me proud to be an American.

The car that plowed into the crowd is said to be from my county. :frowning:

Trump responds:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/12/politics/trump-statement-alt-right-protests/index.html

And please note the following, taken DIRECTLY from the ^article above, “Trump billed the event as a press conference but failed to take any questions on Saturday. Reporters attempted to ask the President whether he condemns white nationalists or if he considers the car slamming into counterprotesters terrorism. Trump, in the past, has been quick to label foreign events terrorism and has slammed fellow politicians for not quickly labeling attacks as terrorism.”

Dear stars… a state police helicopter crashed too, killing 2. Seems outside of the city and no one on the ground hurt.

So, 3 people dead connected to this violence.

The sad and scary thing is that the white supremacists will not care and will not have any remorse. They want a race war.

They are just as evil as Islamic Jihadists.

So awful for this to happen. Feel terrible for UVA students and all affected by this racist, anti-semetic terrorism. Hope it stops! Grateful to those who stood up against it.

To be fair, at the bottom of the article it does state that Trump disavows the movement:

Well, if he feels that way, it would bear repeating, repeatedly! What’s the harm in doing that if the last time you did was in November 2016, and if I remember correctly, came after getting much negative press for NOT doing so until then.

So, 9 months - has he looked into it and found out why? Might want to ask Stephen Miller.

For once I agree with you, doschicos. They are both extremist groups, and they are both evil.

@fractalmstr That disawowal occurred in 2016. After being elected by the way. 3 people lost their lives TODAY. His response TODAY was sorry.

This is the first time, @fractalmstr?! Dang. We’ll have to work on that.

Could y’all stop with the politics and just appreciate that our hearts are broken by today’s events? As our police chief so eloquently said, we will write our own story.

Yet, it is unfortunate that hate crimes have increased due to political rhetoric…
