<p>Background information: I graduated high school overseas and there were no set requirements for subjects, other than English. After HS I moved to Virginia (permanent resident), where I have been attending a community college for the past year because I couldn’t transfer directly to a proper university. By the end of this semester I will have 31 credits. My GPA at my Comm. Coll. is 3.6. </p>
<p>Problems:
- Due to the nature of my high school curriculum, I have not met the requirements for the decent universities in this country ie. I have not done anything math related for years. Everywhere wants to see my high school transcript.</p>
<li><p>Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy living in Virginia. I HATE the extreme weather here and I would like to go somewhere a little more temperate (not too cold). With my current situation, I am going to have a hard time getting into any universities here anyway. I have been looking at going out of state, but it’s just so expensive. My first preferences would be California, Oregon or Washington, but I’d be willing to live in Florida or Georgia. </p></li>
<li><p>I would really like to go somewhere that would allow me to have an active social life. At my community college I have met 0 people to hang out with. Everyone just goes to class and leaves again. No one socializes at all. I wouldn’t even mind going to a party school, as long as I could meet some friends. I used to have a great social life, so I know it’s not just me. I would preferably like to live on campus somewhere, but it seems the public schools only really have freshman who live on campus. </p></li>
<li><p>I have already applied to 2 places that had very lax admissions requirements: Evergreen state college and The University of Nevada Reno. I am a bit concerned about Evergreen because I’m not sure if I would fit in there. I am a liberal vegan who is very interested in public policy and/or environmental studies, but you wouldn’t know this unless you really got to know me. I don’t wear tie dye or have dread locks and I have no desire to fit that sterotype, but I don’t want to be in an ultra conservative place such as Virginia either. As for UNR, I haven’t heard a single good thing about it, but if I didn’t get into anywhere else, I’d probably go. Neither of these places want to see my high school transcript. </p></li>
<li><p>Cost is an issue for me. My parents are willing to give me $17K a year toward my education and housing. I don’t want to accumulate a huge amount of debt, so those $35K schools are out of the question. </p></li>

<p>So, if you’re still awake after reading that, does anyone have any suggestions or words of advice?</p>
