I’m digging through the Virginia Tech common data set, and see that they marked the “Application Essay” as “Very Important.” Does anyone have insights into whether that is the general Common App essay that is given significant importance, or if that is the supplemental questions?
I can’t answer you but you could call and ask or on an info session it’d be a great question.
Of course, schools use those boxes of importance and we don’t know how true they are.
Based on this link though, I’m guessing it’s not the Common App they are talking about. I also base that on their admission page - what they evaluate - they mention this - which is how I found the link below: * Personal statements submitted through the Ut Prosim Profile
Ut Prosim Profile: 2024-2025 Short Answer Questions | Virginia Tech (vt.edu)
In our experience, they are referring to the four short supplemental questions. They place a lot of importance on those. If I recall correctly, we were told during an info session that they don’t read the common app essay or letters of recommendation.
Unless something changed this year (I think the application opened today), VT does not read the common app essay. Admissions focuses on the specific VT essays. From admissions events, it’s pretty clear that the essays are very important especially anything related to the Ut Prosim motto.
Yep, VT has 4 really short essay questions and that’s the only writing they consider. I found it very challenging to fit what I needed to say in the word limit, so start early!
