Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

I would bet that 90% of those adults on the financial industry threads are lying about their scores anyway. I was asked what my SAT score was once at an interview, I gave my “best” recollection, but I had several offers and thought that particular employer would be a strange place to work if they still cared about SAT scores.

I review applications and there are very simple sort functions- click to sort by GPA high to low, or test score high to low. I would guess that they separated by desired major or school and then sorted and reviewed a certain amount. They might have added in other criteria, like also added great athletes to the first review etc. It’s much easier now that it’s not on paper anymore.

Is that for early rounds?

Genuinely curious: how would that impact those students?

As I said, “Lower SES students from under resourced HS typically do not do this.” The later you apply, the more of a disadvantage it places you under for rolling admissions.

they have no early rounds. It’s all one round. It’s idiotic.

Am I missing a reason why they can’t apply early, where it would help?

That is a looooong wait. Wow.

I guess if you can’t intuit it you’d have to visit an under resourced HS with predominantly lower SES students to understand why.

True.

While you can wait until May 1st, the earlier you select your college the better choice of dorms. There are definite advantages to accepting an offer if it is a school you want to attend.

This only applies to some schools. Does it apply at VT? I don’t know as neither of mine applied. It does not work that way at W&Mary or UVa, and not a single one of the other colleges either of my Ds applied to had any advantage dorm/housing wise before May 1st. I realize some schools do have an advantage—just want to be clear that it is not every school and may not apply to VT .

Does Virginia tech factor in expressed interest?

Dorm selection at VT depends on when you commit and sign your housing contract. In past years, students who were accepted ED had an advantage since they signed earlier than students admitted in the EA or RD round.

According to Tech’s CDS, they don’t consider demonstrated interest.

My son also got admitted to Pitt in early December and I have been very impressed by how Pitt markets itself and their whole admissions process. We visited Pitt and their program was top notch and they followed up with my son multiple times and really made him feel wanted. Even though I think he is leaning towards VT because he prefers a smaller town campus, I know that he is definitely considering Pitt because they really made him him wanted. He was also accepted in the VT batch of early admissions just released and that also made him feel very wanted by VT as he thought he would have to wait until the end of February. While that is great for my son, VT really needs to do a better process getting decisions out faster to all applicants who applied by November…good luck to everyone still waiting for a decision!

IDK, I didn’t feel like anyone was lying. Why would they, they were already successful. Some were positioned as ‘I did mediocre and look at where I am now’. My point was that we remembered our scores, but scores were the most important thing when I was applying. Opposite to you I rejected a job offer that asked me what my college GPA was. It was so irrelevant since I had been working for a few years by then.

In going through this process it just seems that some colleges view GPA as more important and others weight SAT/ACT heavier. So depending on your student, aim accordingly.

It is possible that they went through the earliest received applications first as my son was one of the ones who received an acceptance and he submitted his application to VT extremely early (I think he submitted his application to VT and his other top choices in September or very early October).

There doesn’t appear to be rhyme or reason to who received the acceptances, at least from the outside-looking-in. Others have reported getting an acceptance notification after having submitted minutes before the deadline.

I know kids who submitted their Tech applications the last week of August and the first week on September, and they didn’t get a response. So I don’t think they reviewed applications in the order of receipt.

My son submitted to VT extremely early as its his #1 choice and didnt hear anything. His very good friend was working on his app till the last hour and submitted and got in.

Which colleges do you see prioritizing which!
