Virginia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

At the Open House they told us that Regular Decision is “space available”

Unfortunately, EA appears to be the new RD. So waiting to submit by the RD is a risk…

My kid is trying his last app. He did a bunch of EA (with some offers already) but somehow put this one off for business school. Only issue is that VT seems to be the only one that says " space available" for RD.

What does space available mean?

If they fill theyr entire class from EA…then they have no space.

Many schools are like this.

probably many schools do this but don’t mention it like VT has.

VT tries to be VERY transparent and literal on several things. They have a “green” initiative so they don’t sent out any swag or items in the mail to those who get accepted, which frustrated families last year. Also, the fees for tuition and housing are very itemized and detailed, whereas, other schools will just lump things together.

I appreciate the straightforwardness, but they aren’t as warm and fuzzy as other schools. My son loves it, so that’s all we care about.

The VT wait might kill me. I keep telling myself it’s only another 6ish weeks. But truly my S25 wont evaluate other offers until he knows for sure about VT.

Is it mid Feb or late Feb? Virginia Tech is a top choice for my son, but it’s hard not starting to imagine him at one of the places he is already accepted.

Omg you’re right. It’s late February.

Every time I see a new post on this thread I come running in, just in case it’s someone saying SURPRISE they released early!

Sadly, that is NEVER the case.

I may lose my mind before “late February”. Also, I feel like that’s not really “early action” anymore at that point…

My S25 is also in the same boat. They won’t determine anything and get excited about any scholarships and acceptances till they hear from VT. I can’t understand why they wait so long and going to have one devastated kid if she doesn’t get in.

Haha I am same. Like you I have S25 from NOVA going for engineering. Accepted at several schools but VT is the ONE he is waiting for.

Do we think this might happen - potential release on 1/15? It has been very quiet…mid to late Feb is so far from now… sigh!!

That’s my hope! I hope they release at least some in mid Jan.

late February is ridiculously late for “early action”. some schools with EA deadlines of Oct 15-Nov 1 (e.g. UGA, Clemson, UTK) notified in early to mid Dec. Using the same 1.5 months and based on a deadline of Nov 15, it really should have been early Jan notification instead of late Feb.

Would make you think it’s bad for yield as kids will get comfy with earlier acceptances.

It is too bad it takes them so long. My son applied as a music performance major and auditioned back in November. So, the wait is long, and VT is falling lower and lower on his list as other schools have provided acceptance letters already.

We already have 6 EA acceptances. Our son LOVED VT, but the more he has the chance to investigate the other options, the less he’s thinking about the school.

Exactly! I want to say to them - do you not know this? If you have too many applicants to review quickly, use some of those application fees to hire more admissions readers! Or change your algorithm to have some level of auto-admits/rejects and the rest need more holistic review. Or make the EA application deadline Nov 1 instead of Nov 15. It’s absurd for a school with a November “early action” due date to not get information on acceptances out until “late February”. They are going to lose out on candidates who have lost some of the shine from their visits and have instead started imagining their lives at schools that accepted them in December and have been sending emails (or swag!) for months talking about how excited they are to have them, and inviting the students to “picture themselves” at college X.
