Virginia Tech vs Case Western Chemical Engineering

Agree with those above that both are great schools for engineering. Since they are so different, agree with recommendation to visit both and chose the one that feels best. I’ve been enormously impressed by Case Western and my student is so happy there. Students that want the school spirit of division 1 athletics, love hiking/ outdoor activities, or have an interest in the Corps of Cadets will be drawn to VT. Students that want the urban cultural and culinary options, a more diverse student body, and a single integrated makerspace (thinkbox) will be drawn to Case. Both have so many academic and extracurricular options; he’s likely to thrive wherever he goes!!

One-Year Update from a CWRU Parent (Still Impressed, With a Few Realities)

I posted earlier this year about our initial impressions, and now that my student is wrapping up their first year, I wanted to share an update for those following along. Overall: still very impressed—but now with a fuller, more nuanced perspective. Academics – mostly strong, with one “just okay” experience One class fell into the “fine, but not great” category. The teaching itself was good, but my student was frustrated that homework wasn’t graded and returned before the first test. It made it harder to gauge whether they were really on track. Not a disaster, but a good reminder that not every class will be perfectly structured. Humanities breadth – unexpectedly amazing A real highlight was a humanities breadth requirement that went far beyond a typical classroom experience. Classes sometimes met at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Kelvin Smith Library, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland.
