Well, so far I have seen, you can book your interview without your I-20…But, you need to have it during the interview…:p…

In addition the embassy will allow you to schedule an emergency appointment once you receive your I20; you’ll need to tell them why you need one, provide your SEVIS no., pay your SEVIS fee and send them scanned copies of your I20. They’ll try to give you a date that’s feasible for you.

SEVIS? What’s that…?
I hope nz us embassy has this emergency apt thing…!! Thanks guys.

The SEVIS number is an ID number that effectively serves to identify you in the immigration systems. You can find it on your I20. The SEVIS fee is a one time fee you pay before your interview through an online system. ($100); I’d imagine it’s used to create your identity/pay for processing fees distinct from your visa fees.

I had a bit of time on my hands so I checked the emergency appointment thing; here’s the relevant site: http://wellington.usembassy.gov/how_to_apply.html

The 5th one should cover you in case your I20 gets delayed. You don’t need all documents to arrange your appointment, you just need to fill out your DS 156; the call center should be able to assist you anyway.

Oh my gosh… ktwin… thanks so mcuh!! I read that before but I didnt know what expedited meant (so… dumb haha) so I just skipped over that.
Thanks ktwin!!! THANKS!!

I got my visa :)
