Visiting Alabama

We are leaving today for our spring college tour. We are visiting Alabama tomorrow. Son is a Jr. and working on his short list now. Here is how our agenda looks:

9:00 a.m. Dr. Chuck Karr, Dean; College of Engineering
9:45 a.m. Undergraduate Admissions Campus Tour
11:30 a.m. Undergraduate Admissions Information Session
12:00 p.m. Lunch and residence hall tour, College of Engineering Ambassador
2:00 p.m. Dr. Fran Oneal, Assistant Director; University Honors Program
3:00 p.m. Dr. Viola Acoff, Interim Department Head; Chemical and Biological Eng.

We are trying to do the honors dorms tour later that day.

Anything else that we might be missing or a must do?
We are really looking forward to see what Alabama has to offer!

Another question:
How should him dress up for these meetings?

When you go see Dr. Oneal, try to see if you can do a quick “hi” to Dr. Sharpe - the Dean. His office is not behind the glass doors of the Honors college. His office is right when you come into Nott Hall (From the outside, go up the stairs, go in the door, his office is on the left.)

The Honors College is all on the second floor of Nott Hall, so go in from the outside stairs. Nott Hall is located on the east side of the Quad.

Hopefully, when you meet the COE Ambassador, you’ll get a tour of Shelby Engineering and Science Complex. You should ask to make sure. I don’t understand. If the ambassador is giving you a residence hall tour, ask to see the honors dorms then.

If your tour guide only does a very brief tour of the Rec Center, feel free to go back and look around (some tour guides barely go in the front door). Just tell the people at the front that you’re visiting. There is also an outdoor Aquatics Center on the north side of the Rec Center .

lapagan;

After you get back, we’ll compare notes, i think you’re doing things a day ahead of us. we see UA on tues and Clemson on Wed.

mom of four,

Yes, lets compare notes. That will be great! We are visiting Clemson on Friday, with Auburn and South Carolina in the middle.

For what it’s worth, when we toured/met with faculty and administrators in March my son was fairly insistent that he be allowed to dress like a student. So I relented and he wore IRONED jeans, an IRONED flannel shirt, and casual shoes. Just to cover our bases I put on the professional clothes and wore a pressed oxford shirt, wool slacks, and dress shoes, lol.

It all seemed to work out fine and in the end I think we were both dressed appropriately.

Tour the city to see what there is to do off-campus. See downtown, Midtown, the Strip, etc.
