Visiting Pitt and Duquesne - Hotel Recs?

D, H and I will be visiting Pitt and Duquesne next month. Can anyone recommend a convenient hotel?

We stayed at the Wyndham University Place. It’s showing up on bidding for travel at $45 through Priceline. That’s what we did and were very pleased.

Thanks.

It’s showing up on Priceline for our dates at $161 a night. I must not understand how Priceline works.

Okay, just found the bid feature. But that always scares me because there are three of us and I understand they can’t guarantee two beds.

My D is a senior at Pitt. The Wyndham and the Holiday Inn University Center are both very decent hotels and very convenient to Pitt, in the Oakland area. In fact, once you park at either, you can walk wherever you need to go. If you want to stay downtown, we recently stayed at the Doubletree which was very nice. We’ve also stayed at the Omni and the Westin. Both really nice but pricey. You can tell we visit a lot! If you want some restaurant idesa, let me know.

BTW, we have had great success with Hotwire. Just choose the Oakland area, and pick a 3 star hotel and you will get either the Wyndham or the Holiday Inn. DON’T stay at the Quality Inn on Blvd of the Allies…horrible, nasty place!

We normally stay at the Hampton Suites Downtown (free parking) but also use the Hampton University Inn (parking fee but free shuttle to the area and it’s walkable to Pitt). (We’re HHonors members.)

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Pitt’s campus and while I am not usually a Holiday Inn fan it really was very nice. Clean, comfortable and very friendly. The best thing was the shuttle bus service that took you just about anywhere. We used it to go into Pittsburgh for dinner and the driver came back to pick us up. And it was free.
