Visiting Syracuse/Colgate then others in NE - advice

Hello. Rising junior son from NJ – Hispanic – planning first college visit trip to New England/ New York in August. B average student in a challenging IB program. Average athlete in socceer/lacrosse on varsity. Tops in community service. Wants a school with lots of school spirit.

Colleges we plan to visit are:
Syracuse
Colgate
U Vermont
U New Hampshire
U Conn
U Mass Amherst
U Rhode Island
Providence College

3 questions:

 1. In what order should we visit them?
 2. Could we see Syracure & Colgate the same day – are they that close or will we need more time?
 3. Have any advice on any schools on the list above? Things you especially discovered that weren’t on the tour? Questions I should ask? Insider info?

And if there’s any he’d probably not have a shot at – let me know that too.

Thanks!

sit in on a class, any class, but do sit in on one

You will need to arrange with the admissions office if you want to sit in on a class.

Syracuse is a big campus and you would probably want to visit Marshall Street, the bookstore, some of the commercial areas downhill from campus (Erie Blvd), and the pedestrian mall downtown (Armory Square), freshman dorms, a dining hall. You may want to speak with a professor in your intended major. You will need all day.

Same with Colgate…it is an all-day activity if you do it right.

Hard to say what is out of reach when we don’t know about son’s SATs.
