Vmi Vs Uva

im a student at virginia military institute and i have been considering transferring to uva. Have u guys even heard of vmi? i’m going to major in economics and having a hard time deciding whether to stay or transfer out. i feel that vmi does help you build character, leadership, and discipline but does having a better education at a well-known prestigious school outweight it?

vmi is the BEST college, stay there.

everyone i know is trying so hard to get into vmi. ur really lucky u got in cuz there are about 1 million others trying hard. i know harvard and princeton ppl are always trying to transfer in and so are UVA and NYU and Carnegie students.

Am I looking at the same VMI, or does the one you are talking about have a 50% acceptance rate and 1230 average SAT as well?

I live in North Carolina, and I have never heard of VMI. Of course most people here have heard of UVA, but naturally we think Carolina is better. ;)

what do u mean by everyone trying to get into vmi…1 million… i dont think so…about 3000 kids apply to virginia military institute…are u talking about the same vmi as i am? Virginia Military Instititute located in lexington virginia?

Lexington rules, but I don’t know much about VMI. (I’m a prospective W&Ler). I’ve never been impressed by UVa, however, and if what you’re worrying about is character vs. prestige, I can only say this: UVa is a well-known school because it’s a state flagship; if someone doesn’t know what it is, they still know that it exists. It’s prestigious among its competition, but I honestly think that a VMI student would stand out more than a UVa student in the job world.

Just my soon-to-be-18-year-old opinion, though.

Willywonka - what a great observation^^ - you are learning lol

When I was down in VA, the one thing I noticed most about people down there who went to other schools in VA and loved to bash UVa is that they suffer from a serious inferiority complex about UVa. It’s really weird. It’s like they have something to prove. It’s pretty predictable.

JKPower, re. VMI, it’s a great school, but we’re talking about 2 totally different types of colleges. VMI is obviously a military school and UVa is a research university w/ a strong emphasis on undergraduate liberal arts & sciences. I wouldn’t judge a school by prestige but by what you want from your undergraduate education. If you’re happy at VMI, stay there. If the military scene is not your thing, perhaps UVa would be a better fit.

thanks guys for the responses…just found out but.seems like imma stay here at vmi since i can only transfer 3 classes to uva if i did trransfer…it wuld seem likea waste of money and time to go uva…guess i’ll stay here…thanks
