Voice Teacher in Boston?

After doing some research, I have come to believe that there is a different focus on the needs of an undergrad (age 18-22) vs. a graduate student (age 22-24). A lot of the top schools for voice make their name in teaching Grad students. As such, I am not 100% sure those same professors are necessarily good at teaching Undergrads.

I am thinking that what is important for an undergrad is to to find a good technician who can help the student to develop the right technique, to help the student understand how to physically adjust their singing to produce desired sounds, and to guide (exercise) the voice in a healthy way while it is developing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on good technician voice professors for an undergrad in the Boston area? Preferably easy to reach from Cambridge. Feel free to PM me. Thanks.

You have mail!

My D, age 16 and a soprano, has been looking at voice teachers at various conservatories this year. In Boston, she really liked Carole Haber, who teaches at NEC. Depends on the type of teacher your D responds to. I would also recommend a visit. I can tell you that my D also had a lesson with Penelope Bitzas, who has a great reputation, but it was not a good match in personalities or style of communication. She is at BU.

Re: Penny Bitzas

Head of DD voice program studied under Penny for her Masters…They teach beautiful technique at DD school so can assume Penny must have been able to pass that skill on to her student…Have also heard a contratenor, from her studio, in a Boston opera and he was very good…So worth a look.

Can’t speak to the other person Potomom suggested as don’t have any information
