My daughter wants to get a job or volunteer. I think it is kind of late in the summer to find a job. So, at this point if my D looks for a job, she cannot be too selective about the kind of job she’ll get. So I wonder what would be more helpful for her - get a job or volunteer. She’s a raising senior…
thanks in advance.

what area are you in?
we have YVC or youth volunteer corps run through Camp Fire, that sponsors community service opportunties that can be a one shot thing or ongoing.Lots of opportunties- also try local youth organizations that sponsor actitivies, I bet they would need some help.

There could be many people within your acquaintance that could use some help.

One thing that I would have suggested my D do (if she hadn’t found her job) was to offer her services to some of my elderly friends to videotape the inside of their house and provide DVDs for them.

These older ladies have heard on the TV that in case of their houses’ being destroyed, it would smooth the way with the insurance company to have a video of their home–spotlighting their furnishings, etc. (We live in a wildfire prone area)

My D had done some internet research on the subject, but then dropped it when she got a job. But this seemed like a good, short term project that would be appreciated by those who were helped.

The local food bank in our area is always looking for volunteers, and if she drives, there is always Meals on Wheels.

Your local library may have a shut in book delivery service that could require drivers. Of course, with the cost of gas, this sort of service could be out of bounds.

If she does not plan to continue working part time during the school year, it seems late for a job. Volunteering sounds good.
