Volunteers for Peace

Does anyone have experience with or knowledge of this organization? My daughter is considering it for a short-term service abroad. I’ve read the website and it does seem to focus on service with a relatively low program fee rather than mostly touring for a high price.

I have experience with them, but you mainly want to find out about the partner organization your daughter is interested in going with, as they will have a much larger impact on her experience than VPF will. VPF is just the middle man. Where does she want to go?

Thanks, I will tell her to check into the individual organizations. She’s a Russian major, very interested in the central Asian former Soviet republics, but I suggested the Baltic nations or Belarus as they are much less expensive to get to and also strike me as safer and easier to manage for a 19-year-old. She plans on her entire junior year in Russia and is looking at VFP as a way to go to another country she might not otherwise experience and also get just a small glimpse of what Peace Corps work might be like in case she decides to pursue that in the future.
