Voting in Massachusetts

I’m a US citizen who never lived in Massachusetts; assuming I will live in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the next four years starting this August, when can I cast my first ballot for mayor, governor, senator, etc in the state?

I love John Kerry! When is he running re-election again?

Voter registration information is here; looks like if you wait until you get to campus in the fall you will be okay for the November elections.

Also, I should note that nobody has to change his or her voter registration – I’m still registered to vote in Ohio, and I vote there absentee. Swing state, you know.

I’m from Cali going to Massachusetts? My vote couldn’t be worth less of a damn.

(Secondly…you serious about “loving” John Kerry? Even if you voted for him because you didn’t want bush…was it possible to love him?)

I liked Kerry, but love seems like a strong word for any politician. I still have a stack of campaign posters in my room. (I had to keep a supply because they kept getting stolen off our lawn by local hellions).

I liked that Kerry was going to give lots of $$$ to scientists. ;)

I think between me and my boyfriend, we kind of have everything covered – I’m a scientist, so my paycheck gets jacked up by Democrats, and he’s an aerospace engineer (read: builder of planes that bomb stuff), so his paycheck gets jacked up by Republicans. It works out well for us.

I just thought Kerry was better than Bush. :D

I live in Cambridge.

In MA, we particularly disdain politics, especially when a person of Bush lineage is in power. Almost everyone in Cambridge criticizes Bush’s foreign policy and for his handling in the Iraq war. Your anti-Bush rhetoric can find a good home here in Cambridge. We are a very liberal city, we accepted gay marriage, raised abortion rights issue, and advocated archdiocese reform (due to priest molestation scandals).

We are a very diverse city, with blacks, asians, hispanics, and many other ethnic minorities. Our transportation network is highly accessible and you will find that the temperature vary tremendously from season to season.

We are please to a new citizen of foreign origin come and make Cambridge their home!

Any other questions? Cross register @ Harvard/MIT and I can meet you ;)

Who is more conservative, Kerry or Bush?

is that a trick question?

yep…it is (in terms of MIT hardcore academics + social atmosphere of Cambridge)…and your answer is…

Yeah, I’m going to keep my absentee vote in NH… swiiiing state.

Question though – if my parents move to Ohio, and I go home for Christmas and whatever, can I vote in Ohio?

I believe you can, as long as you consider that address your permanent residence (which I still do, even though I am 100% sure that I am never going to live in Ohio again).

What about me? I’m from PR!

ny to ma… i guess the state i vote in makes little difference, ahahahhah.
