Voucher question...

Complex situation - looking for others who have had a similar experience.

I am custodial parent of my D and have filled out FAFSA. I have a EFC of $2060. D’s father (divorced) is able to get a tuition voucher for D which lowers her tuition to the equivalent of 1/2 instate (we are OOS) tuition (Father works at the school). This voucher has a value of $19K. COA is $42K. FAO says that these vouchers are considered an outside scholarship and they would adjust her aid starting with unmet need, moving on to work study and then loans before touching her Merit scholarship, Pell Grant and Institutional Need Based Grants. If this is the case, D is virtually looking at a full ride without loans.

I am nervous, as this seems too good to be true. This is my oldest kiddo and our first experience with all of this. Anyone have any personal experience with this sort of thing? What was your experience with the FAO?

If that’s what they said then it should be valid. If you’re still feeling unsure ask them for that info to be provided in an E-Mail.

Once we have a firm financial aid offer, I will look for more concrete confirmation. At this point, I’m anxious to hear if others have had similar experiences and how they played out.

If anyone has experience but doesn’t want to share publicly, feel free to message me.
