Wacky Weather

So, I noticed today that a few trees in my yard are ALREADY showing early signs of leaf change - healthy trees and 3-4 weeks before normal. I guess with the drought we’ve had it has been predicted that the foliage season might be early. If you are looking to leaf peep in New England this year, you might consider coming a few weeks earlier than the usual time.

Living decades in NE Wisconsin I did note some trees started turning color at the beginning of September. This is at least as far north as you are. Dry summers seem to match timing. Different species are also programmed to turn at different times.

Here’s an interactive foliage map that’s fun to play with:

It was 96 degrees today. Later we got some rain. I do like to see the change of colors. Maybe in a few weeks it will start to feel like fall. Can’t believe I saw an ad for a haunted house already.

It was 95 in Toronto today. I haven’t seen any trees changing color yet.

Southeast Wisconsin, nearly 90 degrees yesterday, torrential rain today. Leaves started to fall a week ago.

“Cool and dry” in New Orleans - mid 80’s and humidity only 65%!

I’ve noticed the oak trees in particular already losing leaves - and lots of acorns on the ground in Northern Ohio!

It’s lovely here in coastal SoCal - low to mid 70s during the day and mid 60s at night. Really hoping it stays this way as September can be our hottest month of the year. Also hoping the Santa Ana winds (hot and dry) winds stay away. They make me sneeze and wreak havoc with my contacts…

We will be in SoCal at end of the month. Have one light weight sleeveless sweater that I would like to wear out one evening with lightweight jeans…will it be too hot?

No, it will not be too hot. It cools down in the evening. If outside near the beach, you will be cold in a sleeveless sweater in the evening.

Here in San Diego the weather forecasters keep reminding us that our temps are below the seasonal average. We are in the mid 70’s during the day at the beach and in the 80’s inland. September usually is our hottest month, but like @SyrAlum I’m hoping we avoid the warm Santa Ana’s especially because of fire danger.

Warm (going to be 90 or so today) and very humid in upstate NY. T’storms this evening which will be very welcomed as we’ve hardly any rain in weeks. Acorns dropping like crazy but no leaves turning yet on sny of the trees.

Thanks @SyrAlum …we will be in San Diego. I really want to wear that sweater!

@conmama - you may want a light jacket to go over the sleeveless sweater especially if you are by the beach and the sun has gone down. You are coming to visit San Diego at the perfect time of year!

What the world would look if the ice melted. Adios, Florida.
