scheduled a NU interview for upcoming weekend ~ will drive 3 hrs each way for 30 min interview. Believe it is important to put a face and personality to the scores

a SAT score that low will make it difficult for your D to make any top 30 schools. My GPA (around a 3.4, 3.5) was the greatest wekaness in my app, but i got a 2140, microsoft internship/rec, wrote solid essays and i got flat out rejected doing Early Decision (which is 50 percent acceptance rate). To make the top schools nowadays, a person has to exhibit strength in every facet of their application unless your D has special legacy, money, famous etc.

the SAT score is low, but your D does have a chance. the interview will be important, and the essays will be critical. NU puts a lot of stock into what you write in the essays. did she do the common app or NU’s own app. the NU app is much more time consuming than the common, so if she did the NU one, it could possibly pay off for her. good luck to her.

Match ~ I simply meant that we believe she would be a good fit there. She loved the campus when we toured last June. We know it is a reach with her ACT and SAT scores. She filled out the common app and the NU supplement.
She received a post card about the interviews but we were never able to access the web address from the card. We found a different web address on this site. Actually that is how we came across this site. We went to that site, plugged in our zip and found that the interviews had already taken place in our city. I went to other zip codes in our state and found an interview in a city 3 hours away. We registered right online at that time and they sent a confirmation email. We also printed off the pages from the computer as well. Interview is at 10A, it was either that or 9:30A sO I figure they are 30 min. I really think that this will give her the chance to put a face and personality with the name and scores. Her GPA, weighted and nonweighted are good as well as the number of AP’s she has taken for what our district offers and all others classes have been either accelerated or CP. She works hard and I know that sounds so cliche, but she has great drive. We have no money as she is the oldest of 4, her father is a full time student and I am a teacher. SO there is no leagcy etc. only the desire to work at the UN or an embassy.
