I was wait-listed to University of Chicago. I emailed the admissions counselor asking if there was anything I was supposed to do, but he didn’t reply. Is it recommended to appeal a wait listing? And when are wait-listed students notified about getting a spot? And what are my chances of getting a spot?
- Send an update of your strong interest and any new achievements to you regional representative.
- Treat UChicago as a rejection and deposit at a school that accepted you and get excited about it.
If the situation changes, it changes.

You can’t appeal a WL decision – what are you going to say? “Pull back Joe’s accept and give it to me. I deserve it more”
-
when there are spots that open – ususally Mid May to early June. Sometimes even later. That’s why you need to listen to point #2 above. Treat it as a rejection and move on.

Who knows? You can research how many people were on previous years’ WLs and see how many got offered – but each year is different. So it’d just be a huge guess = worthless. Again, treat this as a rejection and move on.
I don’t mean to be pessimistic here, but UChicago waitlists many, many students every single year, and only very few make it past that point. I think it’s safe to say that you’ve been rejected and need to start looking at schools that you’ve been admitted to.
