If someone is wait listed in their top choice faculty, and accepts their second choice offer do they lose the option to remain on the wait list for the first faculty? (In other words, is it better to wait until last minute to accept in the less desired faculty)?

When you accept an offer of admission it says all other offers of admission are cancelled, but a wait list is not yet an offer of admission.

The Mcgill web site was not very helpful… may have to phone McGill.

Phoned McGill to ask my question.
Answer: If you accept an offer of admission in one faculty, all other applications and choices are canceled including being on a waitlist in another faculty. So this means it is best to wait till end of April or so to accept an offer of your second choice if you’re hoping to get off the waitlist in your top choice. But if you want to get in to the school, you need to accept something by the deadline of May 1st.

Since housing is by randomly assigned lottery according to the housing website, accepting much before the deadline does not seem to offer any benefit if you are in this situation.
