Wait List Success Stories

My S got waitlisted at four schools (BU, NYU, Tulane, BC). We are going to follow his one acceptance and pursue one waitlist, but would love to hear some wait list success stories.

Read the one in The Gatekeepers about the guy who came off the waitlist at Wesleyan by sending the admissions office a postcard every single day. Supposedly that isn’t the reason he finally made it in, but it endeared him to the office staff. If I remember correctly, he later went to work on David Letterman’s show.

Oldfort mentioned that her D got off two waitlists in the month of May. Search for her posts.

I heard someone call my name…Yes, she did. A distant relative of ours also got off Cornell, Duke and Northwestern. My daughter’s year, her GC got everyone off the waitlist. She was a persistent GC. This year I think people will have even better chance of getting off if you could afford to pay full fare.

I wonder how much pull the GC has.

I know 2 kids who got accepted to Stanford off the waitlist. I don’t know if they made any special effort to make it happen.

My D went to a private school. They have their own drill in getting kids off. The other girl went to a good public, where the GC refused to do anything. The girl’s mother did the leg work instead.

What did the mother do?

^ i will be one of those mothers!! my D’s councelor is very lay-back and doesn’t want to help very much. it seems to me that he is done with the college stuffs already and wants a vacation… we are pretty much alone my D and I with the follow-up in the waitlist process, and i know we won’t give-up hope!

Our DD was on several waitlists-ALL the schools were back east. We had planned to not visit the schools until she got accepted, and then visit. Needless to say…we ended up visiting all the schools, with private appointments made with the admissions office. DD brought samples of a school-wide seminar she led on the topic of addressing reducing urban youth homecides and gang-related issues.
DD attended a large urban public hs—so—DD and Mom did the leg work. It did the trick. G’Luck-APOL-a mom
