I got wait-listed for 3 top law schools (top 20). Does anyone know if they actually pick people from wait lists or not?

Yes, it happens, and it is not unusual for law schools to call you to offer a spot in the class in late August. My sister and two of my good college friends all got the call less than two weeks before classes started. They had already moved into apartments at other schools, and all three decided to take the last minute offer. (The three switches were: NYU to Yale, Columbia to Harvard, and UCLA to Columbia – this last guy turned out to be a legal superstar and works at one of the most sought-after employers in the profession.)

at least one of my friends at michigan got pulled from the waitlist.

my guess is that keeping in touch with the admissions office (not in a creepy obsessive way) is helpful–explaining precise reasons why you’re still interested, sending updated resume or transcript if applicable, and saying you will attend if accepted would probably all move you up on the waitlist.

good luck!
