Computer question – I have a MacBook Air. When I started the computer recently, it said there were software updates for Microsoft Office. I clicked Install and normally it would do its thing (and tell me to shut other applications) and I’d be on my merry way. This time, it’s hung up with the message “waiting for other installations to complete.” I googled this issue and tried “restart” (didn’t help) and “force quit” from the Installer menu. When I clicked on “force quit” I got the message “can’t force quit – installer is busy.” Help! Thanks in advance.
Choice: Hold down the power button until the computer shuts off. Start it up again. That should stop the autoupdate MS thing.
Other choice: open Activity Monitor, which is in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. Click on the “cpu” tab at top, which organizes processes by how much cpu resource they use. If you can identify the process, double click on its name. That will open a window which allows you to quit it. It may ask if you want to force quit. If it can force quit, it will. Odds are pretty good you can tell which process it is because it says “not responding” in red.
Ah…thank you! I’ll try it.
The first thing didn’t work; the second one did! And it installed! No more “waiting to install”. Thank you Lergnom. This is a huge quality of life issue for me. Now I don’t have to make an appointment at the “Genius Bar”. Mwah!
