Dear Appeals Committee,
I recently received word that I have been waitlisted at UC Santa Cruz for Fall 2015 incoming freshman. Though I am disappointed, I am writing to inform you of my continued interest of being accepted to Santa Cruz. In fact, your school remains my top choice. Especially after my Junior year when I attended the AVID Junior Trip and learned about the business-economics programs offered on this campus, I knew in my heart this was the school for me. There are so many great opportunities for me to learn and to grow with the help of your professors. It will definitely provide a great education. I have been working very diligently to be accepted to UCSC. I respectfully request the Appeals Committee to reevaluate my application based on the new information provided in this letter.
I am a senior at Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. I am currently wrestling with a busy schedule highlighted by fourth quarter academics, school involvement, and employment. As I squeeze in time to visit and attempt to prioritize the schools where I have been accepted, I thought it might be to my advantage to discuss any additional material that was not included in my application. For instance, my first semester of senior year grades. I finished with a 4.0 and bumped my grade point average from a 3.5 to a 3.68. Having the responsibility of a job, after school clubs, and 3 ap classes, I still managed to make grades and not let the so-called “senioritis” affect me because of my continued determination of being accepted to UCSC.
As UCSC being my number one school, I believe that College Nine would be an outstanding college that would not only help me grow as a student, but would lead me down the path towards the career I wish to pursue. I am interested in Economic Globalization and I believe the Economic and Business courses offered on your campus are amazing. I believe I have a lot to offer to Santa Cruz. I am a determined student who believes I will make a difference on your campus whether it be from participating in clubs and making a voice for the student body, to being dedicated to the UCSC campus and making a name for myself.
I know that your numbers were high this year and you had a competitive pool
to chose from and I know that my SAT scores may not have impressed you. However, I’d like to think that my grades and classes, and my activities and my drive to be successful, will outweigh those scores and convince you that I will be an asset to Santa Cruz’s class of 2019.
