Parents just called my interviewer indicating my desire for being a part of the school (I got waitlisted)…And the interviewer said its not likely that they will open up the waitlist, and he also said “he is not the strongest on the list, but he is quite competitive from his recent updates.”. Does that mean a smooth rejection?? Your reply would be highly appreciated!

As indicated on the [Wait List](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1300302-wait-list.html) thread, the wait list is in place to help the school, not to help you. The school wants a pool of ready and able candidates to fill the space if the school’s enrollment unexpectedly drops below what they anticipate. It’s like being the understudy for an actor - you didn’t get the part and chances are that you’ll never get on stage, but if the actor comes down with chicken pox, then you’re in! So, what you’re asking is “What are the odds that the actor will come down with chicken pox?”

So (continuing the actor analogy), do you call up your grandparents, aunts, and uncles and say, “Come see the show - I’m the lead!” . . . no, of course not. But you keep their numbers on speed dial, anyway, just in case.

As for Milton, being “quite competitive” is great, even if you’re not the strongest on the list. They may decide that you’re a better fit for an open spot than that “strongest” candidate. But it only matters if they end up going to the list.

And the reality is that you just never know. Chances are, they won’t go to the waitlist. They prefer not to. But . . . stuff happens, and this could be the year that the school’s enrollment is just way off from what they expect. So, you should make plans for another school for next year . . . but there’s no reason you can’t hope for a massive outbreak of chicken pox! :)

Thank you so much dodgersmom! Hehe sorry I’m just too desperate since I have no acceptance but 5 waitlists. Thanks again for the detailed reply!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, you’re not alone! :)
