waitlist letter

i am a waitlisted applicant for the class of 2017 and am in the process of writing a personal letter to supplement my application. The letter is currently over 1,000 words because I describe an obstacle I faced that I did not mention in my application that accounts for poor grades and extracurriculars. It also bleeds into why I am interested in Emory and why I would be a strong applicant. Would it do more harm than good to have such a long letter? or is hard to comment on this because each letter is so personal?

Make it as concise as you can and then submit it.
