Waitlisted after being deferred

Is there anyone in state who was waitlisted after being deferred and had a gpa of 3.7 or above?

anyone?? please do share, I just want to learn from all the experiences I can

Search through last year’s RD thread.

I did but no one mentions whether or not they were in state, and that makes a difference :frowning: @HumNation

Very, very few come off the waitlist and some years none. Stay on it if you are willing to cancel admittance and forfeit the deposit at the college you do accept in April. But aren’t you putting the cart before the horse? The final decisions won’t be out for a few months.

Momofthreeboys is correct about the past. It does appear that U Micah’s new admission strategy will involve more use of waitlists. From reports of a NACAC college counselors meeting: “In addition to reducing the number of students admitted early, Lindsley warned at NACAC that Michigan would also be making greater use of wait lists to control the flow of admitted students and ultimately get a handle on class size.”

In other words more of a chance of getting in off a waitlist because less admitted upfront. Thus what has occurred in the past may not be all that telling.

so is there anyone from last year who got waitlisted after being deferred and was in state? I can’t find it on any thread

Maybe search around on this thread? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/17094817/#Comment_17094817

It may accept more from the waitlist this year, however, the admission stat would not go lower than last year.

Year before last yes - a friend of my son was asked if he wanted to go on the waitlist after a deferral from EA and waiting until April. He declined and went to Michigan Tech. Don’t know about last year.

what were his stats? gpa above 3.8? @momofthreeboys

I’m guessing around 3.8 unweighted. Most kids don’t bother applying to CoE from my kids’ high school with much less than a 3.8 unweighted. He’s a happy engineering sophomore at Michigan Tech.

This year, in state with 3.8 GPA and ACT 33 still got deferred from CoE.
