We really can’t tell you. Penn State only uses waitlists some years and not others, so posters who have built up a knowledge of PSU admissions probably aren’t familiar with waitlisting since it’s used infrequently. I personally don’t believe the 60-80% statistic quoted on the other thread. Seems high.

The thing is, the letter Penn State sent themselves stated that 60-80% get off the waitlist.

If that’s the case, we can’t tell you anything more direct than that.

As @bodangles said, they’ve only used the waitlist some years. In fact, only one other year of the last 5 that are published on the common data set included waitlisting numbers. In that case, more than 60% came off the wait list. But it’s not a typical thing for PSU to do. Your stats aren’t all that important as far as determining if you come off the wait list. Being on the waitlist means, had there been room, you’d be accepted. So at this point, you aren’t in competition with anyone else I don’t think. You are simply in a placehold and you will come off the waitlist, I believe, in order that you went on. But again, maybe someone here knows more than that. So your stats were good enough for admission. They just don’t know if they have the room until the see their yield. This is why people should deny their acceptance if they are accepted and decide not to attend. This way, the school knows there is room. But unfortunately, most don’t do that. So they have to wait to see how many actually decide to attend of their accepted numbers.

@jlhpsu My status changed today, even before may 1st. I called them last week and they said decisions will be made in the next two weeks. do you think everyone came off the waitlist?
