I was waitlisted…what do you think is better?

if bu is your dream, then deferred–you’re not getting off the waitlist. but don’t feel bad–that was me last year…you can always transfer.

i thought you had to apply directly to the general studies program to get in.

Moonwave, I applied to the College of Arts and Sciences, and was given admission into CGS…

Congratulations, and welcome to Boston University. You have been admitted to the College of General Studies from a highly talented and remarkably competitive group of applicants. Although we are unable to offer you admission to the College of Arts and Sciences, we are confident you will find the College of General Studies to be challenging and rewarding. The Board of Admissions believes you will be an excellent addition to the Boston University community and will take full advantage of the wide variety of academic, cultural, and extracurricular opportunities that await you here. Our offer is made with the understanding that your current academic work will be successfully completed.

Correct me if i’m wrong. BU took off around 50 ppl last year from the waitlist and it was considered a lot more than the # of people they usually take off from waitlist.

meh, even if you got off the waitlist, you cant be guaranteed good financial aid. at least that’s what it said on my letter (hi five for waitlisters). but it’s either that, or paying 2 extra years of tuition for CGS.

The past 3 years have been bad for waitlisted, but it was a lot better before that. I thought they only took about 20…but I couldn’t confirm that.

but cgs isn’t an additional 2 yrs…it’s just spending the first 2 yrs at a diff school than the one you applied to

this is from bu’s common data set…

Total freshman applicants placed on wait-list
2,960
Total freshman applicants accepting place on wait-list
1,464
Total freshman applicants accepted from wait-list
521

that was not last years–that’s what it was like until about 3 years ago

really? they should update it…

oops, my bad. i must be thinking about NYU (hopefully ive got this one correct).

nyu’s gsp is like bu’s cgs…u spend 2 yrs there, then transfer as a junior to the school u originally applied to

ok, i fail at life. no wonder i got waitlisted hahah.

I don’t understand though…are waitlisted applicants higher in the applicant pool or are the applicants who are deferred to CGS?

It seems that the waitlist are higher status wise. But I guess statistically CGS kids are better off than waitlisters…sorry.

I agree with Pikaachusbutt. CGS means no waitless. Your actually accepted with the graduating class of 2011. It means you can transfer into tour intended major jounior year with all your general requirements out of the way.
