Waitlisted/deffered- is there any chance?

Do the internationals get decisions at the end after the domestic applicants are selected?
Are there any chances for those who are waitlisted or deferred?

Trying to understand the process. Please help.

hmm. I am an international student as well. I’m pretty sure both international and domestic admissions decisions are made all at once. I’m also pretty sure that each school has a limited number of international student seats and a limited number of domestic student seats. That is, there really is not much competition between international and domestic students. If you’ve been waitlisted as an international student, it is most likely that you are waiting for another international student to make his/her decision on accepting/declining the offer.

The admissions committee would be most likely to accept less international students than they anticipated, not more, regardless of how many domestic students they receive, as international student funding comes from the department, while domestic student funding comes from NIH/NSF.

Internation or American, I would say that you should stay hopeful and try to send them extra information to further influence their decision. The word is that dont just sit and wait, do something like send them another essay or grades of another course that u might have taken or another recommendation letter. You might want to search the web, you would find more details.
