Waitlisted Everywhere! 5x's

I’ve always known that getting wait listed would be the most stressful admissions decision I could get, but I never anticipated getting waitlisted at all 5 of the major schools I applied to.

The full list was

Occidental College
Pitzer College
Mount Holyoke
Lewis and Clark
Smith College

Now I got a full ride to my safety, Colorado State, so I’m not option less but I want to transfer out of there as soon as possible.

Is getting wait listed at so many schools a sign of some glaring error?

How do I avoid this when I try to transfer into Smith?

The biggest “flaw” in my application that I can think of is an EFC of 0$ but that couldn’t be the reason at the need blind schools…could it?

Any other tips from people who were wait listed and did or intend to transfer?

Better than getting rejected everywhere.

It’s really impossible for anyone to say why you ended up waitlisted at all your top schools - your stats seemed to be safely in range to me, and I was very impressed by the art you posted links for. Good luck, and I hope all the waiting results in an offer somewhere.

Did you visit those schools?

There’s no real way of telling for sure, but I think visiting and interviewing made a huge difference for me. The schools I didn’t visit were the ones that wait-listed me even though my stats fit their general profile.

But, yeah, it’s really impossible to say.

Pitzer waitlisted a TON of qualified applicants this year. It’s possible it was yield protection. Have you considered writing letters requesting reconsideration/expressing your continued interest?

Yield protection – I agree. Everybody’s the new Wash U. I wonder what it must be like for the adcoms at Wash U to become a kind of joke in the admissions world.

I don’t think you did anything wrong. Those are tough schools to get into. Congrats on your full ride to your safety.

Well it’s comforting that this isn’t something abnormal:]
I’ll see about writing those letters then.
