Waitlisted for MSW program. Now what??

Anyone have any words of wisdom? Support? help. thanks.

Maybe I should clarify…d applied for only 1 grad school. 3.86 GPA, GRE around 153, National Merit finalist, Very good college EC’s, essay was super. Statistics on UT SSW waitlist, anyone? Much appreciated.

Try posting this in the UT forum.

thanks, will do.

What kind of wisdom do you want? The UT forum is primarily for undergrads, so you might not find much useful advice there.

Contacting the school and reiterating your interest can never hurt - some students who are waitlisted choose to attend other programs. By reiterating your interest and stating that this is your number one choice, and that you will attend if accepted, you might get moved up the wait list (not every school does this, but some do). If you have made any achievements in between submitting your app and now - significant ones, like winning a big award - then you might send them an updated CV.

The only other advice I have is to start putting your Plan B into action. Start looking for other opportunities - jobs, internships, whatever else you would’ve done in between undergrad and grad school. You can reapply next fall - and definitely apply to more than one school. You also may want to retake the GRE - a 153 is just average. For a top SSW you want higher scores.

Just as a side note…your National Merit Finalist status stopped mattering once you got into college; that doesn’t mean anything to a graduate school. It’s based on high school work. So you can stop including it on your CV now.
