S is waitlisted in Dartmouth and Middlebury. Does anyone have any track record of admission for waitlisted students in any of these? Which one should one be praying for? When do they announce results from the waitlist. Also, do they offer FA to such late admissions?

On the Middlebury board they seem to be saying that 40 people got in off the waitlist last year, but some years it has been 0. I seem to remember less activity on the Dartmouth waitlist and Dartmouth is very slightly harder to get into anyway, so I might guess Middlebury if you do every possible thing----can someone from the high school call? send in a letter and more information etc. If your child is willing to do February admission, indicate that in the letter because you don’t whether the waitlist slots will be Feb. or regular. The school won’t know until May 1 what their yield is but shortly thereafter or even a few days before May 1 calls may be made. Some calls may be made after June, but for your own sanity, there is a point when you might want to give up. Check the waitlist threads from last year to see when people got calls. Financial aid seems unlikely, so if it’s crucial, you might as well go with what you have.

The waiting list numbers (offers and admits) are published in each school’s Common Data Set, which you usually can find and download on the web.

Last year, Dartmouth waitlisted 1,532 applicants, of which 927 elected to remain on the waiting list and 81 (5.2%) were eventually admitted.

Last year Middlebury waitlisted 1,527 applicants, of which 756 elected to remain on the waiting list and 42 (2.7%) were eventually admitted.

I don’t think that Dartmouth’s financial aid will depend on whether your kid comes in off the waitlist. I don’t know about Middlebury.
