Waitlisted, sad…. Want to write a letter to AO. How should I write it? thanks!

Waitlisted, sad…. Want to write a letter to AO. How should I write it? thanks!

I was Wait Listed to Middlesex, which was surprisingly my best offer. I wrote a letter to the Dean of Admission because he is the one who signed the Wait List letter. Most schools do not rank those on the Wait List, but as my interviewer put it, they are more likely to accept someone from the Wait List who they know will attend if given the chance. In your letter (preferably printed and mailed), restate your desire to go to the school, but do not lie and say the school is your first choice if it is not. If you did not receive any acceptances, make it clear! The admission committee will know that you are out of options, and, even though you may not like to admit it, desperate. (Please do not take offense to that comment, as I am also desperate.) Give specific reasons that you wish to attend the school or it could look like you used the same letter for any other schools to which you were Wait Listed.

@rjackloski is right. I got rejected to MX (the only school I applied to- not smart). Admission officers can smell the bs miles away. Keep it as real as you possibly can. Good luck, I hope you get in(:

Find out who your AO is, and write a personal letter explaining that you will definitely attend if accepted. Outline some of the fun interesting activities you have engaged in since you sent in your application. Discuss SPECIFICS of why you want to attend school X (a sport, a certain professor, whatever it is). Do some homework. Send it ASAP. The first round of picks off wait list comes on April 10 when they get a feel for yield; sometimes a few more spots drift open around July due to unexpected changes of plans or family circumstances.

I sent an email on the evening of March 10th the AO and got a response pretty quickly. I sent some new stats and updates on my grades, while expressing my enthusiasm, and asking a few questions. Do you think that that’s okay @2prepMom ?? Sorry, but I am super, super nervous… But knowing that I don’t actually have to start freaking out until April is helpful, so thank you!

Yeah, usally all schools get a good idea of the yield around April 10th. So that is when you would be taken off.
