Waitlisted

I got waitlisted at a couple of colleges. I’m an international student and the colleges provided info about my admission officer for questions etc. I love these colleges. Should I mail the admission officer apart from submitting the loci on the portal to ask if there’s anything that could strengthen my app. I know for some students, school counsellors do the reaching out thing but the process is foreign to my school so I’d like to ask myself. Is this fine or shall I just go with the loci?

I wouldn’t reach out to ask what i could do.

If I were to reach out and I’m not saying I would, it would be to show why I belong on campus and how I can make it better - but you likely did that already.

In most cases, a WL is a tough get and you should move on emotionally to who has accepted you. Schools can pick off the WL for different reasons - money (who can pay), major (maybe they need to fill a major) or other reasons.

My concern with your note is you are putting too much hope into a school that has rejected you. That’s right - they said no. But they’re playing a game with your emotions - in the instance they don’t enroll enough - and you’re falling into that trap.

If you have acceptances, you have schools that love you. Focus on those. You did your LOCI and that’s great - and then forget.

I agree 100%. That being said, OP is intl and it’s very possible they haven’t received an acceptance. If you haven’t, submit a compelling loci explaining not just that you love the school, but what YOU can bring to the school that they can’t find elsewhere.

No. Send a LOCI and that’s it. Include any significant things you have done since your application was sent.

Hopefully you have some acceptances. Choose one of those. Grow to love that. If you get off a waitlist, you can revisit.

They didn’t out right reject you…yet. A waitlist means that IF the college needs more students, those on the waitlist will be considered.

We don’t know what colleges you are talking about, but many take few to no students off of the waitlists.

Also, are you in need of financial aid? If so, as an international student, this won’t help you at most colleges

For reference for others…here is your chance me thread from December. You need significant financial aid and the schools on this post are need aware fore admissions. Basically you are needing a full free ride here…and admissions will be considering that.

And lastly…you wrote:

I understand that these are some of the most selective schools but I’ve got my safeties.

So…did you get accepted at your safety schools?
