Hi all,
I’m a 4.0 student with a 2310 SAT (1530 CR+M). I’ve taken 9 AP courses (most of what my school offers), I’m a national merit semifinalist, im working on my eagle project, etc. What I’m confused about is why ALL these schools have waitlisted me…
I was accepted early to Uchicago and BC, and got a merit scholarship to UC. I then was accepted to the Murphy Institute at Northwestern in the spring. Yet the rest of my schools went like this:
Waitlisted at Brown, Columbia, Duke, Middlebury, Harvard, Amherst, Wash. U. in St. Louis and Lafayette (?)

Well, you applied solely to top schools. You had to know you would get this sort of result. And after all, you got into BC, UC, and NU! Plenty of kids would kill for that result. Look at all the kids on this site who literally got in nowhere. Be proud of yourself, man! Besides, there’s always the possibility of making it off a few of those waiting lists.

Dude… you got into UChicago, there’s really nothing to complain about. Yes it sucks to be waitlisted, but you got into a very good school (in fact, more than one), and you should be very happy with that. Push very hard for some of the schools you have been waitlisted at but I think you don’t have much to complain about. I was also waitlisted by a bunch of very good schools, and I know it is disappointing. But admissions this year have been very strange; the number of applications was far larger than the number of applicants, and many schools will likely have to go to the waitlist. Keep your fingers crossed.

Why are you confused? You applied to some of the most selective schools in the country. You could have easily been rejected from all those schools. And you have excellent options; be happy.

I’d kill to get into Chicago (well, not literally but you get the point), but I’m guessing it wasn’t your top choice?
Maybe you’ll get off the waitlist at some of those schools, but at least you already got into a great one.
