Just saw the first invoice with a $666 charge for the Yale health plan. My d is covered by my plan at work (BC/BS) so I don’t think we need this. But I have some concern that the Yale Health Services says they don’t accept any outside insurance. Does anyone have experience with health providers in New Haven who do accept outside insurance? Thanks.

MorseDad, you might want to have a look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-2013/723846-yale-university-health-plan-vs-home-coverage-im-confused.html

LOL, the Yale Health Plan is Satanic.

my understanding of the rules is that if you waive the Yale health plan, your student can still use YHS for free for primary care including gyn. So anything that a family practice doc or pediatrician or gynecologist might do for your kid (ear infection, sprain, bronchitis, birth control, etc.) will be covered. Visits to specialists and emergency room care are not covered. Your home plan may or may not cover those things adequately. If you waive the Yale plan, you may end paying out-of-network fees, or your child may occasionally put off seeing a specialist until she comes home for vacation.

So, we would have to check whether our coverage extends to New Haven Drs/hosps?

Yes, for instance, I just changed my insurance company and so I check for the preferred pharmacies in NH.

Many thanks all. I had not yet seen that other thread Booklady.
