Hypothetically speaking… if a student has completed their first year at Wake Forest with a 3.5 GPA, did well on standardized tests (680 M, 780 R, 730 W; 31 ACT), and is involved a few clubs and activities, what would their chances be at transferring to UVA as an out-of-state, non-minority, female student? Is it a viable shot?

What if they did poorly (B to C range) in high school for the first two years and transferred to a number of different schools for personal reasons, but finally excelled in the latter two years and graduated in the top of their high school class? Would this affect a transfer application adversely?

Hey. I am also at Wake and transferring next semester–I had a friend from Davidson last year who applied to UVa and Emory and got into both for the fall semester, so it’s possible especially with your stats. good luck and just plan ALOT.

I would encourage you to try to stick it out at Wake for a full year, boardingkid.

i already did. I am a sophomore currently. Not feeling Wake at all.

I think you have a legitimate shot. You should apply regardless, you never know who you are stacked up against (which can be a good thing). Not every applicant has a 4.0 and is a triathlete. Though, as a transfer from a 4 year University, you need to focus on WHY you want to transfer AND display that regardless of where you are, you can be a good student in a challenging environment. I am not sure what your major is, but focus on the program and elaborate on why you are interested in it. Otherwise it just seems to me that you are looking for the social aspect of the school or simply the prestige of UVA (not implying that it’s true btu be careful how you write your essays). So, with that being said - if you have a legit reason to transfer you should be able to write a compelling essay, but if you don’t then you will have a tough time writing the many essays UVA requires for their app. They do focus heavily on that information. Grades is supplementary to everything of course.

Don’t create road blocks for yourself, give it your all and hope for the best. :)

That’s unfortunate, boardingkid. All my friends that go there love it. Good luck transferring.
