Some D3 coaches that my DS has tried to contact did not respond at all.

What should we do?

Or wait after admission reply date to see if there is any slot left?

To those coaches who responded, what else we need to do to keep channel open?

For Ivy league, is anything we need to do or to see if there is walk on/non-recruited after RD deadline? He just added two more ivy schools after he knew the results of SAT subject test today. I know these are reach schools and we did not prepare for recruiting but just decided to give a try since there are three schools on his list now. He is not a superstar player but a good decent D3 player. Curious about what people said?

If the coach has not responded then I would think you are out of luck at that school for any help. If you are worried they did not get your email, you might think of a reason to send another (application filed, update on your resume, etc.).

Admission reply date - what date is this? The admissions deadline?

If a coach responded I assume you opened a dialogue and expressed your interest in the school. The coach would typically want you to visit, collect more info such as transcripts and scores then possibly offer you a recruiting slot, or perhaps just write a letter of support, or nothing depending on your circumstances. If the coach is not being proactive, that tells you something, but you can still ask the coach if there is any way he can help.

Walk on/non-recruited - Not sure what this means. Does this mean a situation where a coach helps you but does not offer you an official recruiting slot?

I would think if you were interested in a school and planning to apply there anyway, it would make sense to keep the coach informed in case something does open up. The process including asking for committments and issue of likely letters in the case of the ivy’s I understand does continue after Jan 1.

“2. Admission reply date - what date is this? The admissions deadline?”

The day got notification.

“4. Walk on/non-recruited - Not sure what this means. Does this mean a situation where a coach helps you but does not offer you an official recruiting slot?”

As I stated that my DS is not recruited and is planing to promote himself after deadline 12/31/09 RD for those reach schools. I think most players recruited and have a tip from coach for admission during ED/EA. We are doing the last minutes shot.

There are lots of schools that recruit in the mid-winter and spring. But they are generally not the ivies and elite LACs. Lots of “lower” D3 schools still have room on their teams. Contact the coaches directly and don’t wait until after any deadlines. Sooner is always better. Your S’s email should state that he is very interested in attending the school (but only if he is) and send his athletic “resume”. Ask if the coach would like his DVD.

With elite LACs and ivies, they have already identified the ED and RD recruits. It would be an anomaly if they have any open slots. However, an email or phone call to the coach can ask about walk-on opportunities.

ShesOnHerWay, That was I am afraid about that elite LACs and ivies, they have already identified the ED and RD recruits. He got some respond from those elite LACs but never tried at ivy since there is only one and is reach anyway before yesterday. We are waiting for FA offers at RD anyway in addition to if you can play his sport. Thanks.
