Walmart service

Yes. I know. I should know better. On June 12 I wanted to buy a Playstation for my son’s birthday which was coming up soon. However, he was going to be temporarly out of the state so I wanted to make sure he could return it if he didn’t want it. I called around asking the price and their return policy. Chose Walmart because I hate a $15 store credit there. Price was a little lower than the others also. Person answering phone told me they had a 30 return policy, and that they had it in stock so off I went.

Asked again when purchasing about return policy. Assured it was 30 days. I bought it, wrapped it and gave it to son. He went off on his trip and when he returned decided not to keep it. On June 27, went back to a different Walmart to return it. Had to get the department manager to approve return. This was unopened. Totally. Manager approved but when they tried to ring it up, the computer told them it was only a 15 day return. No exceptions. I explained the situation and they told me to drive to the store I bought it at and they would take it so we did.

Nope. They wouldn’t take it either. How frustrating is this? I now know why I don’t shop and Walmart.

Don’t accept their answer - insist on speaking to the next level manager and explain that you shouldn’t be adversely and financially impacted just because their employees aren’t trained well enough to either know the answer or consult with someone who does. You should try to get to the store manager who definitely has the power to take care of this. If that doesn’t work then start working it through the corporate management chain.

You shouldn’t be forced to do any of this by them but I hope you end up winning this one.

15 days for electronics, it’s pretty clear in their return policy which is easily found on their website.

[Walmartstores.com: Return Policy](http://walmartstores.com/7658.aspx)

Someone shouldn’t have to go to a website to determine a store’s return policy, if they’ve asked two different store employees about returning a specific item both times they spoke with them.

ucsducladad nailed it right on the head. Any correspondence you have with corporate management, I would send certified mail, so they know you mean business and someone has to respond to you.

I would also head up the food chain until you get the answer you want. That said, most receipts these days have the return policy printed on the bottom or backside. Unless you can track down the person that sold the unit to you and they admit they told you 30 days, you might be SOL!

I am known by my friends to be the person that can get almost anything returned or a price adjustment. It might take me several trips to the store and as many phone calls, but I don’t take no for an answer. Just today I was able to get Bloomingdales online to do a price adjustment on a dress my daughter purchased 6 weeks ago that was on sale with an additional 15% off last week. I ended up reordering the dress in a difference size and getting the price matched on the original dress, and will now return the second dress. I wasn’t thinking and should have had them price match without rebuying the dress, but my daughter is happy to have saved the extra money.

I am trying to teach my kids my tricks, but they usually come to me to do the heavy problems for them. It is nice to be needed ;)

3bm, if they won’t take it back just sell it on ebay. I’ve heard of people taking it to a different walmart and telling them they just received it as a gift purchased there but that they had no receipt. Might work… dunnoo

If you bought the item June 12th and returned it June 27th with the purchase receipt you complied with 15 day policy and should have been given your money back. If you look at the bottom of your receipt I’d bet there is fine print with the 15 day policy printed for return of electonics like the Playstation. Regardless of all this, I’d be very surprised if the local store manager wouldn’t at least give you a store credit if you didn’t keep receipt for the unopened item after returning it. I’ve never had a problem returning anything to Wal-Mart. Tell the store manager you relied on the store employees telling you 30 days…you’ll get your refund though it might be more of a chore getting it if you don’t have proof of purchase. Good luck!

Your fault. Xbox would be more ideal for human beings.

In all seriousness though, write a letter to the branch manager saying how this issue will reach all local news and universities. I got a free laptop like this. :)

I went up the food chain at both stores. Heck, the department manager approved the return!!!. Then the clerk couldn’t do it because of the computer so I asked to speak to the manager. I spoke to two managers at the second store. By this time, my son was getting embarassed. The last manager I spoke to claimed he was the store manager and as high as I could go.

Lizard: you’re right. June 27 was the day they said I had to return it by. I actually went July 10 to return it.

Ucsd dad: the store manager wanted to know the NAME of the employee who had told me that. There were two, but I didn’t think I had to get this in writing. He also pointed out the store policy, which was NOT, on the receipt and it was 15 days but again, I shouldn’t have had to look it up myself when assured by TWO employees.

It is not past the 30 days so I doubt I’ll get any satisfaction, but it does reinforce why I have not shopped there in years and won’t again until I forget why :)

Here’s a start on trying to reach someone in corporate.

How about what I said? :(

If you’d be satisfied with a store credit instead of cash refund it doesn’t matter when you bought the Playstation, you don’t need receipt or have to be concerned with 15 day deal according to Wal-Mart’s refund policy–buy a set of tires or something there:

Q: Do you accept RETURNS without a receipt?

A: Walmart, for several years, has accepted returns without a receipt, even though many of our competitors require receipts for all returns. Walmart gives customers the option of a cash refund (if the purchase was under $25), a shopping card for the amount of the purchase (if it was over $25) or an even exchange for the product. Also, as applicable, we follow any manufacturer’s warranties.

Localorfaraway: You’re right. The xbox is what he wants in exchange.

Lizard: I can’t believe they’d take it back without a receipt but not with one. They wouldn’t give me a store credit with one!!! If that’s true, Walmart is dumber than I thought.

3bm, if I may, if you would consider re-surprising him, you can buy the xbox with kinect. I think he’d enjoy that.

P.s. I am not your son :)

^^ Funny one…

Different states have different laws requiring that return policies are clearly posted, either in the store or on the receipt. This does NOT apply to posting on their internet site since you did NOT purchase the item online. Im in CA and that is what we had to comply with when I was in business before retiring. Since Walmart is an inter-state company they may have different standards to abide by, so I am not positive what their responsibilities are with regard to returns.

Rather than TALK to a Walmart executive, send a formal LETTER. It is much more effective than talking to someone in person. Send it to the corporate president, if necessary, so his or her administrative assistant can follow up with you.

I’m actually surprised you even got a person to answer any questions over the phone at Walmart…it doesn’t happen here :(

Haha thank you. I try my best :)
