I would say you are in because your ECs and URM status push you over the edge. Especially the ECs, going to Sudan to help the situation first hand is awesome. Speaking fluent Arabic will help too. The SATs and GPA certainly won’t get you in, but they won’t keep you out. Are you applying EA? Regardless, I’d say you’re in.

I’m a freshman at G-town and I work in the admissions office! You are definitely qualified! Go for it…are you applying ED or RD? I would recommend ED, but either way I think you have a pretty good shot.

thanks jaysom6797! i hope so! i would apply early but i really want g-town to see the grades i get during my senior year before they make their decision to accept/reject/defer me…

any1 else care to share?

They don’t reject students early. Only defer or accept. So, if you apply EA and get deferred they will still see your senior year grades when they look at your application again in the RD pool. Gtown doesn’t have ED do they? I thought it was only EA and RD.

Yes Akajjrad, its EA, im sorry. And they dont reject you if your not accpeted in the early action pool like Akajjrad said so i would definitely apply EA…there’s no reason not to!!!

Tim Kaine, hell yeah.

i thought for GU there really isnt much of an “advantage” applying EA, unlike other schools?

Who said there was an advantage? It certainly isn’t going to HURT you, that’s all we said.

So… the girl who started this post is amazing and I’m going to cry at her craziness, but anyway…

I’ve been looking at Georgetown for a while and just started looking into the Walsh School of Foreign Service. It’s everything and more that I could hope to get out of a college education, and I’ve basically fallen in love with the entire program. Which is bad, since if I don’t get in I will cry enormous tears of sadness. Anyway, I’ve been asking my guidance counselor questions about how competitive admissions are/how many applicants are admitted/etc, and she isn’t sure so any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated.

First of all, I have a quick question: Can you apply to Georgetown college and, if accepted, transfer in to SFS?

Secondly, here is my info. If you could just give me an educated “yay” or “nay,” that’d be lovely.

State or Country: San Diego County, California
School Type: Very large public
Ethnicity: Italian/White… mostly Italian but that usually doesn’t count for anything
Gener: F
SAT I: 680 Math, 680 Writing, 770 Critical Reading
SAT IIs: 730 Literature, 750 US History, and 640 Math II (I’m definitely retaking the math one though, and I’m pretty sure I’ll do better this time)
GPA: weighted 4.5, unweighted 3.86
Rank: 3

I have also taken all AP/Honors classes since freshman year (with the exception of French, which wasn’t offered in advanced levels until this year, and I’m taking AP French this year so…)

Extracuriculars:

My current schedule:

So if that isn’t my entire life story I don’t know what is  haha… Anyway, if you could give me an honest answer that would be wonderful.

I’d say you have an excellent shot of getting in. YOu can apply to the college and then transfer, but there is no guarantee that you will get in and that is NOT the way to do it. It’s really shady for everybody else. If you want to go to SFS apply there, don’t apply to the college and then transfer to SFS if you knew you wanted to go to SFS in the first place.

seriously??? i actually have a shot???

i don’t think you know how happy you just made me. seriously… even if it’s just a shot, i feel better than i did before…

akajjred, i love you :)

the end.

What would get you in would be all those APs and your wGPA and rank (3 out of a large public school is big bonus). Nice volunteer work too. Besides people from CALI gotta stick together. I’m not saying your in, but I could definitely see you being accepted. CALI is where its at.

hahaha heck yeah it is… are you from southern cali?

so are you applying/applied/attending SFS?

and is there anything else you think i should be doing right now to help me get in?

and could i possibly ask any more questions?

Naw, I’m from NorCali, San Francsico, socal is sick though.

Yep, I’m applying to SFS this year too. Let’s hope we both get in.
I guess writing your essays and turning in your app. Are you applying EA?

Yea, you can ask more questions, but I’m just a prospective student, so I can’t promise that I’ll be able to answer all them.

San Francisco??? are you kidding me right now? i love that city more than life.

sort of anyway… haha

what other schools are you applying to?

and i’m not sure if i should apply EA… i mean, Georgetown is definitely one of my top choices (maybe even my number 1)… but i’m not sure if i can pay for it. and if i were in a binding legal agreement and i couldn’t pay i’d be in serious trouble…

so, if this isn’t waaaaay to personal (and if it is, you don’t have to answer), what are your grades like? i’m just curious for comparison… what kind of extracurriculars do you do?

basically my plan is to interrogate you  haha i kid, i kid. don’t worry… i’m not actually a psychopath.

Yea San Francisco is pretty sweet.

I’m applying to Gtown SFS EA, Tufts, Columbia, Penn, Stanford, George Washington, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, and maybe Vanderbilt because they got a hella high grade for girls from college prowl3r, lol.

You should still apply EA because EA is non-binding. You’re thinking of ED, which is binding. EA gives you their decision faster, and if you get deferred you auotmatically get a second look in the regular admisssions group. I’m in the same boat as you I can’t pay for Gtown unless they give me $20,000+ in aid.

Well I’ll just copy my chances thread here for my grades and ECs

White Male
All-boys Catholic High School in San Francisco, CA
GPA-4.0 uw
SAT-700 CR/800 M/690 W (2190)
SAT II-Pending
Rank-1/178

8 APs by graduation-5’s on World History, European History, and Environmental Science, 4 on English Language

Taking AP US History, US Gov’t, English Lit, and Calculus AB

EC’s
-Basketball all 4 years, Varsity Junior and Senior year. Captain Senior year on HIGHLY successful team.
-President/Founder of European-American Club at school (School is only 20% white)
-Editor of Editorial Section of Newspaper Senior Year
-Shadow Program at school all 4 years
-NHS
-CSF (Cali version of NHS)
-100 hours of community service at Adult Day Care Center and tutoring elementary school kids
-Beginning to learn French on my own after taking Spanish at school.

There u go. The 4.0 uw and #1 rank will help, but my ECs are average.

hahaha i just went and looked at the ******* girls list. i’d never heard of it before… very amusing though lol

anyway, 10 schools? that sounds like fun. my original list of colleges was like 20 schools long, but thankfully i managed to narrow it down to 7. i’m applying to Georgetown SFS, Yale, Brown, UCLA, USC, Boston University, and San Francisco State University (i’m really paranoid that i won’t get into any of my other schools, so SFSU is my safety)

hmmm… then it definitely makes sense to apply EA. my only problem is having the app done in time… a lot of my teachers (writing recommendations) are innundated with letter requests, and it might take them a while. but then again, there’s no reason not to apply EA, right?

so (since you’re in the same financial boat as i am), do you know of any merit scholarships/how good the finiancial aid program is?

hmmmm okay and by “************” i meant the college prowl3r thing hahaha
