based on just this info and not taking ecs into account, what are my chances?
SAT: 600CR 630M 550W will redo if I get 28 or lower of ACT
GPA UW: 3.2 (got a 2.7 freshman year, 2.5 sophomore year because I was moving to Oregon, and a 4.0 junior year)
GPA Weighted: School doesn’t do weighted GPAs or ranks
Next year classes are: AP Bio, AP English language and Composition, AP Chem, Physics, COLLEGE NOW precalc and trig, Modern American and World Issues, and Law and American Society
This summer I’m interning at a marketing company and I’m taking a course at a local CC thats a continuation of AP US Gov
I currently live in Oregon (born and raised in Arlington, VA) and I’m planning on majoring in physics.

Also, how’s their physics program??

From what I’ve heard, anything involving science at Stony Brook is generally top notch. I would expect physics to be the same way.

You seem to have strong stats. Do you plan on applying early action?

And what other schools are you thinking about?

I’m thinking about:
Occidental College
Syracuse
Northeastern
American University
Babson College
U Wisconsin- Madison
Quinnipiac
Robert Morris
Boston U (maybe)

For everything except Madison I’m going to major in international relations or economics. I’m planning on applying to nice science college so if I decide to major in physics I have a place to go.

Sounds like you’re right in the ballpark for Physics. I’m really impressed with our Physics department; Nobel Prize winners on the faculty, a new $60 million building coming soon… lots of great things. Plus, they do a nice job of taking care of their undergrads! If you’re planning to visit, let me know and we’ll set you up with someone over there.

Chris

International Relations or physics, what a range.

I would avoid physics like the plague. It has nothing to do with the department, I just despise that subject and anything associated with it.

As Chris said we just got a 60 million dollar grant for a new Physics building. Our Science department is top in the country. Our Computer Science is 14th from the last time I checked, probably even in the top 10 now. We have Brookhaven labs right next to us, which is one of the top research facilities in the world. Stony Brook is an amazing school, why else would we get 60 million dollars, which is the most money any SUNY school has ever gotten, if we weren’t a top school?
