Hi I was a sophomore in NYU-Poly until I failed out. I have always wanted to pursue Art and Illustration as a major. My high school SAT scores were 2100 and my high school unweighted GPA was 3.0. Can anyone recommend to me a school that may overlook my failing out of college, and focuses more on a art portfolio?

Also if I were to apply to one of these schools, would I apply as a transfer?

Contact schools to find out the transfer policy but you obviously won’t be given credit for classes you failed which sounds like a lot.

Do you understand why you failed. You have a superior SAT, average H.S. GPA and grossly substandard college grades. Things aren’t right. It sounds like a motivation problem to me but there could be a potential learning disability you’re not mentioning.

Any of the art schools are focused on art. Since you are in NY, I’d say Pratt and School of Visual Arts. Pratt has two 2-year programs also (Utica and Manhattan). If you have low motivation, go for the 2 year programs. It may be easier to discipline yourself for a shorter goal of an associates in fine arts. You can transfer to Pratt(Main campus in Bklyn) if you want to continue on to the BFA.
