want to be a MD but also interested in business

Hi,

I am an incoming freshman to the University of Virginia. My dream is to be a doctor. However, UVa’s business program (McIntire School of Commerce) is also really good, while UVa is not a stellar school to send students to medical school. 60-70% medical acceptance rate, comparing to 90%+ in JHU/Duke.

Is it a good idea to finish pre-med req in the first 2 years before starting McIntire curriculum, so that I can decide this 2 years later?
or graduate from UVa with a business degree and then apply for medical school?

I heard a lot of rumors saying that medical schools do not look favorably to students with business major.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

You answered your own question. Stick with pre-med.

School matters little with pre-med if you keep high GPA and MCAT. Surely you’ve heard about weeding out at JHU and Duke… they just don’t give recommendation letters to unqualified applicants. This allows them to artificially raise their acceptance rates to med school.
