Hi,

I want to become a tornado forecaster and I’m wondering what kind(s) of college degree(s) I need. (I just want to make it clear that I’m not talking about storm chasing - I’m talking more along the lines of meteorologist.)

(Also, is there such a job as specific as “Tornado Forecaster,” or is tornado forecasting just one of a range of skills? If so, what is the name of that job position that includes tornado forecasting? The reason I ask is that I’m particularly passionate about tornado forecasting so I’m trying to find out if there is a matching career specialty.)

Thanks —

Storm Chaser guys like Reed Timmer went to Univ. of Oklahoma and studied Meteorology.

I have to agree with U Oklahoma. You also get to study them up close.

I would say U Oklahoma. They excel in meteorology overall and have the National Weather Center in Norman.

Yep-

Oklahoma specializes in this.

Our S wants to major in meteorology also but is NOT interested in the severe weather/tornado field. (I think we have traveled too much during spring break when we were being chased by tornadoes!) He will not apply to Oklahoma.
