i have developed a very strong passion for real estate, i love everything about it - the marketing, the social media, the communicative aspect - i know for a strong fact it would suit me very very greatly. how ever - i’m a junior currently, and i know it would definitely be an outstanding idea to start gaining some actual money for a career in real estate instead of going straight into it. next semester i’m only going to have a short class schedule so ALOT of free time. I’m majoring in Marketing so i was thinking around something with social media or perhaps a business marketing firm of some sort. would love to have feedback from anybody who can give a suggestion as to where i should pursue an internship.
I do lead generation for a lot of real estate companies. If you want to be a real estate agent just drop out now, nothing you learn in college is going to help you. Get your license and learn everything you can about marketing. In my experience you either have it or you don’t in real estate, some people just can’t sell, which you’ll find out pretty quick
That is about the worst advice ever on CC. The vast majority of people who enter real estate sales do not make enough to support themselves and leave the field quickly. The majority of active residential real estate agents do not do it full-time; they either have an another more steady income flow, a supporting spouse, or are a homemaker.
To the OP, real estate is more than just selling homes. Get your degree, and try to get a position with a commercial firm. There is alot more to real estate than selling homes.
@bjkmom that’s an application for an internship at Google, nice try though.
I work with multiple real estate agencies and the 80/20 rule is blatantly obvious, majority of realtors make next to no money while the best ones are balling.
OP said he has a passion for real estate, if he wants it bad enough he’ll find a way to succeed and college will do nothing to help him do that.
I always approach life from a burn the boats philosophy, I’m all in on anything I devote time to, no point half-assing things in my opinion. You can only be at your peak when you are in do or die situations, when you either succeed or you fail with no ways out.
But what do I know, I only own a successful marketing consulting firm at the age of 21
The real estate business is not easy but very rewarding. I have been doing it for almost 10 years and have done very well for myself. Start part time first then see if it’s for you. That is my advice. And of course fins the right company to work for!
@dp142409 What aspect of real estate do you like? It sounds like you are more into corporate marketing rather than sales (not sure why the thread detracted towards that). Are you interested in commercial or residential real estate? What part of the industry are you most interested in property management, investments, brokerage, development & planning?
Every business needs to market, but if you were to market a product what would interest you most and why?
