Odd - even though the page you link to clearly says “gift link from a subscriber” it won’t let me see the article without subscribing/logging in. Just me?
I think you have to log in (free) to see the article for free.
You have to give them your email to read for free.
32% Boomer
26% Gen Zer
21% Gen Xer
21% Millenial
Hasten to add 14 percent millennial. I am an old Boomer.
So it’s 43 percent Boomer, 21 percent GenX, 21 percent GenZ, 14 percent Millennial.
A mixture of spending styles:
31% Boomer
31% Millenial
23% Gen X
15% Gen Z
ETA: I’m Gen X.
31% Gen X
25% Boomer
25% Gen Z
19% Millennial
I guess that makes sense. I’m a young Boomer.
Yes. So unfortunately, not truly free.
31% Boomer, 31% genZ,
19% genX, 19% genY/millenial
45% Boomer, but I think the questions were rigged. Boomers are less likely to have student loans, more likely to already own property, may be reassessing new car purchases in retirement etc.
I played it again answering as my youngest daughter (age 33) who has student loans, really needs a second job to cover expenses etc. Hers came out as 33% millennial, 33% Gen Z, 25% Gen X, 8% Boomer, which sounds about right.
Then I played as her very different older brother (38) who owns a home, has a good job with benefits, and just sent me pictures of the avocado toast with quail eggs he made for today’s brunch. He scored as 31% Millennial, 25% Boomer, 25% Gen X, 25% Gen Z.
I wonder if anyone comes out more than 50% one generation? Post if you do. I took it twice, once with buying my own health insurance and once with Medicare (since that will switch in a few months). That did up my boomer percentage but I still was mostly Gen X.
Gen X 40%
Millenial 27%
Gen Z 20%
Boomer 13% (Going on Medicare switched this and GenZ)
I just want to say that I have never felt like a Boomer and part of it was graduating into the recession of the early 80s and feeling like all the good entry-level jobs were taken by the slightly older Boomers. I have much more economic angst than my brother who is 6 years older. So this feels vindicating to me!! Go Generation Jones!
I’m, agewise, right on the Boomer cusp. I’ve never really identified with a lot of Boomer stereotypes.
Not quite 50%, but 45% Boomer, 18% each for the other groups. Although there were a few questions where I was wavering between two or more answers. (And I’m a solid Boomer, I think my birth year was the top of the chart.)
35% Boomer, 29% Gen X
My answers to several of the questions would have been none of above. For example, if I find $10 in couch cushions, I’m not going to immediately spend it. I don’t immediately spend income when receiving it, regardless of whether it is from employer, a fed stimulus check, or money found in couch cushions. If I find cash at home, it would most likely end up in the small cash storage I keep at home, which I primarily use to pay gardener.
I found this 10Q quiz about spending. Will try it. Don’t know how it compares with the other one.
36% Millennial
29% Gen X
21% Boomer
14% Gen Z
I’m an elder millennial, so it makes sense that my results would largely be millennial and Gen X combined.
I keep a junk email for precisely this purpose.
Such a weird quiz. I am Gen X, but came out very evenly split.
Gen Z: 29%
and then 24% for all other generations.
But I was also baffled by the finding money in the sofa cushion question. My answer felt boring. I would put it in my wallet and probably by the time that I actually paid cash for the next purchase (rare for me), I would have forgotten where the money came from. Or upon finding the money, I would have cried out in surprise thus alerting my kids about the found money. At which point, I’d somehow end up with $0 in a blink of an eye, but they’d be very happy with themselves.
I’m a mix too. But the answers really don’t fit me. For one thing if I find money unexpectedly like in the couch or ( more likely) in a coat or purse I haven’t used in a while, I always donate it. My theory is that I wasn’t missing it, so I should give it away.
